Heavy Equipment Burned on Mount Ararat, Turkey, 2010

In 2010 government work began to build two dormatory buildings with 25 beds each and toilets and showers for climbers on Mount Ararat at camps 1 and 2, in eastern Turkey. The effort was abandoned in one day when the equipment was burned. It is anticipated that in 2012 Murat Camping, owned by brothers Murat Şahin and Sayim Şahin, will be successful in building the dormatory buildings and toilets for climbers on Mount Ararat. As of 2011, there were no buildings or toilets on Mount Ararat which is a military controlled zone. In 2011, Turkey declared Mount Ararat a national park. In Turkish its correct name is Ağrı Dağı Milli Parkı. It is now the largest national park in Turkey. All climbers must have government permits and a guide to climb Mount Ararat.
